Cannabis Water Is Coming to Take the Pain Out of Exercise

by

Stoners and users of the hashtag "fitspo" alike, rejoice: Weed-infused bottled water is on its way to a refrigerator near you (at least if you live in a state with legalized recreational marijuana).

Puration, a company specializing in cannabis extractions to be used in food and drink products with a focus on "wellness" and the sportsball-inclined market, is the organization behind it. Exercise and weed may seem an unusual combination, but the cannabis water isn’t going to get you baked. It’s infused with cannabinoil, the component of marijuana that helps to relax the body and relieve pain. It won’t have THC, the psychoactive compound that prompts you to eat Cheetos while watching Adventure Time in a state of reverie.

The company lists off numerous benefits for sporty types who ingest CBD: It’s an anti-inflammatory and can relieve muscle spasms, reduce nausea, and aid sleep, and current research is looking into the uses of CBD for treating sports-related head injuries. Hence why the product, named EVERx CBD Infused Bottled Water, is being pushed on the fitness crowd.

Since this kind of product falls into the same category as any other marijuana-based edible (or drinkable), EVERx water will presumably be available only in states with legal, recreational cannabis currently on sale — Colorado, Washington, Oregon, and Alaska — and in the future, Massachusetts, Maine, California, and Nevada. Puration notes the water is "not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease," so it likely will not be available to medical marijuana users. Eater has reached out to Puration for more information.

The company is expecting to take in $1 million water sales in 2017. Its product may be a perfect menu addition for fast food chain Jack in the Box, which has a bright future thanks to America’s marijuana boom.
